The exhibition Buchbilder at Galerie Thomas Flora (Innsbruck, 1999) presented a pivotal series by Fritz Pechmann, in which the book itself became the starting point of artistic exploration. As a found object (objet trouvé), the book is freed from its original function and placed into a new visual context. Geometric cut-outs penetrate the pages and create openings towards archetypal meanings – inspired by C. G. Jung’s symbolic language. Circle, square, triangle, and cross represent, respectively, infinity, the earthly, transformation, and the tension of polar forces. Each composition emphasizes the relationships between forms – tension and resonance as expressions of inner movement. With this exhibition, Fritz Pechmann’s artistic language revealed itself as concrete, clear, and yet deeply profound. It engages not only the eye but also the mind – inviting a silent encounter with form, meaning, and transformation.
